Andy's got his voice back and we're rocking his special eGames Expo 2008 feature - he scopes out everything the event had to offer, from the new titles being shown off to the Cosplay competitions - Andy's all over it.

Watch the video now - if you attended see if Andy caught you doing your thing (and pray you're not those guys singing Eye of the Tiger). What did you think of eGames 2008 if you went along?

The Championship Gaming Series shut its doors earlier today, the league's official website announced.

The American based pro-gaming league ended today after two seasons of gaming, claiming the idea was ahead of its time "in the esports space" and that the idea was would take too long to become profitable.

Australia had its own CGS team, the Sydney Underground. We're attempting to contact them now to see what they think of the developments - we'll let you know their comments when we do.

What do you think this will do to competitive gaming? The structure for the series came under a lot of fire for its game choices (Counterstrike Source, Dead or Alive 4, FIFA 08 and Forza 2 the game choices) and the league's structure, and it was never actually televised in Australia - do you think it's a great loss?

There's a bit of a fighting game renaissance underway at present. There's a great new Soulcalibur game out, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD remix is poised to tax some of your (pick your in-game currency), Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe is shaping up into something quite decent, and hello: Street Fighter IV early next year. It seemed like a good time to reflect on exactly what it is that makes fighting games great...

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is a pretty cool outfit. They take hot celebrities and get them to strip for expensive ads. They also get a bit angry about how animals are treated as well, and are considered the largest animal rights group in the world.

According to Wikipedia, PETA's slogan is "animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment", which begs the question: what's their point? Anyway, PETA has lined up the videogame industry in their sights this Thanksgiving (=eating turkey in the USA) season with an aim of slamming one title in particular. Is it one of those boring deer shooting games? One of those Big Game Hunter titles that seem to sell a tonne? Hell no - they're going after... Cooking Mama.

PETA has made a flash game in Cooking Mama style that is going after one of their corporate targets - click the full story to have a crack.

Jodie was on scene at the Call of Duty World At War party to find out what the gamers in attendance thought of their time with Call of Duty World at War.

First impressions seem pretty positive,

Stay tuned this week for the GameArena review - god bless Activision, they sent it to us on the PC! Have you gotten hands on time with the game yet?

The Killer's new album is heading - in part - to Guitar Hero World Tour for a same day release in music stores and in-game. The new album Day & Age hits on November 25, and two tracks - "Human," "Losing Touch - plus "Mr Brightside" will be available in a track pack for $9.95 or $3.45 separately.

The Killers are a pretty good pick for Guitar Hero World Tour - they're a band with something to offer every player without leaving anyone in the dark.

Have you picked up Guitar Hero World Tour yet? Have you noticed any issues with the drums? We had some initial problems with the sensitivity - issues that quickly went away with a new set of cymbals - and we've heard varying reports about the quality of the drums - some very good, some very bad. How have you gone?

If you're one of those lucky people who "works" from home (Kreese) and you're not currently addicted to World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (not Kreese) and you like zombies (e v e r y o n e) you should be aware that the Steam version of Left 4 Dead is out today.

If you are working from home today make sure your midday nap ends before the following times (depending on your location).

NSW, VIC, TAS - 4:00pm
QLD - 3:00pm
SA, NT - 2:30pm
WA - 1:00pm

We're keen on checking out the versus mode - and of course seeing what the rest of the game has to offer. Make sure you add Joaby on Steam if you feel like jumping in a server with a person who will shoot every single car alarm. Start preloading now - and check out the new trailer in our videos library.

Update - Daylight Savings works the other way, apparently. Times edited!

Opting to create a parallel studio as opposed to upsizing their Melbourne HQ, Tantalus will be shortly opening a Brisbane office.

The successful Aussie developer has a strong track record including work on major franchises such as MX vs ATV, The Flintstones, South Park, Spyro, Cars and Pony Friends (don't laugh, it's an earner).

From the media release:

With 70 developers presently at work in the Melbourne studio on Wii, DS and PSP, CEO Tom Crago said the choice was either to continue growing that operation, or set up a new studio to work in parallel. “I like the idea of capping our Melbourne base at around 80 developers,” said Crago. “We’re on track to grow to that level by next year, and in Brisbane we’ll endeavor to replicate the model that’s been so successful for us down here. In the first instance, the Brisbane studio will work on a DS title, expanding to two teams by the end of next year.”

The Brisbane expansion has been overseen by Tantalus COO David Giles. “We’ll be opening our doors in December,” said Giles. “With the help of the Queensland Government we’ve found a terrific location in Kelvin Grove, and feel that the talent pool up there will enable us very quickly to assemble a world class group of developers. In fact, we’ve already made
several key hires.”

A smart step - Queensland and Victorian Governments are ahead of the curve (at least by Australian standards) in recognising the benefits of supporting games development. There's no shortage of talent to go about either. And keep watching Tom Crago, also head of the Game Developers Association of Australia (GDAA) - one of the brightest sparks of an increasingly high profile stable of Aussies making waves locally and in the APAC region.

As promised, part one of our Wrath of the Lich King diary-slash-review. We're looking at covering the experience to 80 without the mad rush or grind, but still in a reasonably quick time. What we do need: some insights of the Death Knight on Live. Contribute your thoughts from a DK perspective? Easy? Hard? Constantly getting targeted by players? Let us know and we'll add it in...

Square Enix fans who happen to have an Xbox 360 take note: it's hitting our shores at the same time as the rest of the world - on November 21:

From the presser:

Features

· A cutting-edge new adventure from Square Enix and the creators of the FINAL FANTASY series

· Innovative new battle system that allows for large scale battles delivered with an unrivalled cinematic intensity

· Selective Encounter System allows you to engage the enemy your way, eliminating random battles

· Unreal® Engine 3 takes Square Enix’s legendary production values to the next level

· Fully localised for PAL territories with French, German, Spanish and Italian subtitles and menu screen

There's also DLC for pre-orders, a pretty smart tactic that was also employed for Fable 2...

March to War Set

Boost your tactical strength with this pack of three formations.

· Scatterswarm – Sacrifices defence to improve attack on the left flank and mystic attack of right.

· Goblet – Improves attack of lead ranks, but reduces defence of flanks. Effective versus avian fiends.

· Catapult – Improves the mystic attack of back ranks, but reduces attack and defence of lead ranks

Question one: does anyone resent the notion of people being given an edge in the game just because they pre-ordered a title?

Question two: What's the appeal of turn based action over real time - more thoughtful and strategic? Is a different skillset at play here? I got owned for suggesting the JRPG / turn based combat approach was done some time ago - what's the hook?
